TRICARE Extra
TRICARE Extra is the same as Standard, but with the added benefit of lower cost-shares when you seek care from a TRICARE network provider. You do not have to enroll in TRICARE Extra; you simply use a TRICARE network doctor, which saves you money.
For example, a TRICARE Standard retiree is normally responsible for a cost-share of 25% for an office visit. If the same retiree's office visit is with a TRICARE network provider, the cost-share drops to only 20%.
