TRICARE Prime Remote Program (TPRP)

The TRICARE Prime Remote Program (TPRP) provides civilian healthcare benefits to active duty service members whose permanent duty assignment is 50 miles or more from a Military Treatment Facility (MTF). Active duty service members whose duty assignment is within 50 miles of a MTF may be eligible for care under the Supplemental Health Care Program (SHCP).

Active duty service members identified as eligible by the military services must enroll in the TPRP. Enrollment is for the tour of duty and does not require annual re-enrollment.

TPRP is an enhanced version of the TRICARE Prime program. For covered services, TPRP provides:

  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits to beneficiaries on active duty status
  • No cost-shares
  • No copayments
  • No annual deductibles

Services not covered under the TRICARE Prime program are covered under the TPRP when authorized by the military Service Point-of-Contact (SPOC). Services performed by a healthcare professional who is not a TRICARE-authorized provider are covered with SPOC approval.

The SPOC:

  • Is the liaison between the active duty service member and all members of the healthcare process
  • Reviews referrals
  • Evaluates care already received to determine its impact on the service member's fitness for duty
