Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP)


The Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP) provides temporary health benefits. Those eligible include:

  • Military members who are discharged or released from active duty under other than adverse conditions
  • Family members
  • Emancipated children
  • In some cases, former spouses who have not remarried

 

CHCBP eligibility depends upon prior eligibility under a military health plan. CHCBP benefits are the same as TRICARE Standard. The TRICARE Extra option is also available. All premiums, annual deductibles and cost-shares have to be met.

 

Under CHCBP:

  • Coverage is available for 18 months
  • An unmarried dependent child or a former spouse who has not remarried may be eligible for coverage for 36 months
  • Enrollment within 60 days after discharge or loss of eligibility is required

 

To enroll, you can either:

  • Download the form from TMA's Web site 
  • Write a letter enclosing appropriate documentation to support your eligibility
