What is the difference between TRICARE and CHAMPVA?


 

Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) covers veterans' families not eligible for TRICARE who are:

  • Dependents of veterans who have a 100 percent permanent disability received while on active duty
  • Dependents of veterans who died from a disability received while on active duty


TRICARE and CHAMPVA are often confused with each other, but they are completely separate programs. The Department of Veterans Affairs administers CHAMPVA. To learn more about CHAMPVA, please call 1-800-733-8387.
